Scientific Name: Harpagophytum procumbens

Origin: South Africa

Certainly, Devil’s Claw Root powder doesn’t sound like a spice you’d want to eat, but then again you’d also be wrong. Despite its devilishly fun name, this wondrous root is actually a common herbal medicine in Europe, used for osteoarthritis, pain relief and stiffness of the knees, hip and lower back. Very bitter in taste, Devils Claw supplements are often blended into teas, tinctures and herbal capsules where sweeter elements can be introduced. However, that’s no excuse not to take advantage of its great and many health benefits.

In all honesty, the name is derived from the root’s outward appearance and not because of any ancient curses or rituals. So, give it a try the next time you’re in need and we promise there won’t be any need to worry about possession or enchantment as you indulge.

Joint Health

With natural anti-inflammatory properties, Devil's Claw Root Powder can ease pain and inflammation in the muscles and joints. By lessening the pressure being placed on these vital areas, it relieves overall discomfort and helps to prevent further damage. These same benefits also make it effective against arthritis pain as well.

Pain Relief

Devil's Claw Root Powder’s anti-inflammatory properties have added benefit when combined with its mixture of fatty acids and flavonoids. As a general pain reliever, it can help to minimize soft tissue pain, as well as discomfort related to conditions like heartburn, upset stomach, menstruation, and tendonitis.

Healthy Facts

Often utilized for atherosclerosis—or the hardening of the arteries— Devil's Claw Root Powder is a powerful partner for internal pain relief. Though its properties can also be employed externally to help calm inflammation of the skin due to injury, allergic reaction, cuts, scrapes, infections, and lesions.

A member of the sesame family Devil’s Claw Root Powder originated in the south of Africa, mainly in the Botswana region. A traditional piece of local folk medicine, it was later introduced into Europe by a German soldier in the mid-1900s. There, it was used by practitioners to relieve heartburn, restore appetite and assist with a wide array of other ailments. Over the years, it became engrained in the German culture and even today it is widely used throughout the country, as well as in many of its neighbors, including France. Both countries continue to study its medicinal properties, hoping to find further evidence of its capabilities.

If stored correctly, our Devil's Claw Root Powder has a shelf life of up to 2 years. To maintain its freshness, it is recommended to always reseal the bag after opening it and removing as much air from the bag as possible. Store in room temperature, away from any heat source or sunlight.

Devil's Claw great for my greyhound!

I put the Devil's Claw powder in her food, though I know it's quite bitter, dogs don't have very good taste buds, so she eats her food easily. It's giving her more flexibility in her leg muscles and such. I'll keep using it if she continues to enjoy her walks more. Good product.
